What Is It? What is 5-HTP?
The 5HTP-Hydroxytryptophan, Pill of Happiness is a dietary supplement metabolic precursor of serotonin, which in turn is a neurotransmitter in the brain. It is produced from the seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia. 5-HTP is used in alternative medicine to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, insomnia, headaches, PMS and reduced appetite.
5-HTP is a short abbreiation for 5-hydroxytryptophan. This is a substance obtained by the human body from tryptophan, an essential amino acid, obtained through the food because they are not produced by the organism itself.
