In addition to being an excellent plant in the fight against the feared Kafunshô! the medicinal properties of nettle go back to Ancient Greece, where it was used to alleviate the symptoms of seasonal allergies and to alleviate pain associated with inflammation. Today the nettle is used as a medicinal plant, edible and a good source of chlorophyll.

   Detoxifying, anti-anemic and Diuretics

The leaves contain high levels of chlorophyll, vegetable molecule green color, whose chemical composition is very similar to hemoglobin (oxygen carrier in our blood) and iron. These constituents are responsible for their detoxifying and antianemic properties, since they stimulate the production of red blood cells. They are also rich in other minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, calcium and silicon, and vitamins A, C and K. Trichomes contain histamine, acetylcholine and formic acid, substances that appear to act as anti-inflammatories.    From the therapeutic point of view the leaves have a strong diuretic, antiinflammatory and remineralizing action, being still slightly hypoglycemic. In general, the nettle helps the body to eliminate excess fluids. Arthritis, rheumatism, gout and beneficial in the treatment of genitourinary infections, and prostatitis, as by stimulating urination, help eliminate the bacteria causing the infection.

Nettle has the ability to alkalize the blood, facilitating the elimination of acidic waste from metabolism, and is equally important in treating cases of arthritis, rheumatism and gout.

On the other hand, because it is a good source of quercetin, flavonoid, which inhibits the release of histamine, is effectively used to reduce symptoms associated with allergies and hay fever (Cafunshô).

   Anemia and bleeding

Rich in vitamins and minerals it posses a valid help in the case of anemia. With vasoconstricting and haemostatic action, they also help staunch nasal bleeding and relieving heavy menstrual periods, further reducing blood sugar levels.    It is also recommended in chronic conditions of the skin, especially in the treatment of eczema, rashes and acne, against hair loss, and to clean and purify the skin, usually in the form of lotions or tonics, whose action can and should be supplemented By the oral intake of nettle-based supplements.
